Khenpo Pema Norbu

Khenpo Pema Norbu was born in 1962 at Ningshingbrang village in Pemagatshel district, Bhutan.In 1972, at the age of ten, he studied Buddhism under the guidance of Lama Ugyen Dorji,who was a student of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche. After studying for five years under him, Khenpo completed the course on Dudjom Tersar.
In 1977 at the age of fifteen, Khenpo was enrolled as a monk at Dzongsar Institute in Bir, Himachal Pradesh,India.He obtained Shastri degree(Equivalent to B.A) in 1991 and Degree of Acharya (Equivalent to M.A) in 1994. Subsequently, Khenpo taught the students in Chokyi Gyatsho Institute for higher studies of Buddhist Philosophy in Dewathang for six years. Upon the instruction of His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, Khenpo entered into the three years retreat in Tiger's Tail Retreat Centre in Paro, Bhutan. After three years retreat, he served in Bir Labrang, India for one year. In 2005, Rinpoche appointed him as the Head of the Sangdhak Gaypailing Dharma Centre,Bartsham and taught the monks for four years.
In 2009, Khenpo taught Philosophy to monks of high grade in Dewathang Shedra. Recognizing his hard work and contribution, corresponding to the second day of fourth month of Bhutanese Calendar of 2010, Khenpo was conferred the title of Khenpo by His Eminence Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche at Dzongsar Chokyi Lodro Institute, Bir, Himachal Pradesh, India .
In 2012, under the leadership of Khenpo, after establishing a Zimchung (resident for root master) in Ningshingborang, His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche was invited to Norbugang Community for the first time. Following this important visit, in 2013, Khenpowas appointed as the head of the Chhoegar Dhuedhuel Phodrang Monastery. Currently, the monastery has about forty monks and they are provided free meals, clothes and education.
Apart from the above contributions and qualities, Khenpo had received various initiations and vows from great masters including His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, His Holiness Dalai Lama, His Holiness Karmapa, His Holiness Sakya Trinzin, His Holiness Penor Rinpochhe, Venerable Khenchen Kuenga Wangchuk and His Holiness Talung Tsetruel Rinpoche.
