Khenpo Tshulthrim Woesung

Khenpo Tshulthrim Woesung was born in 1968 at Nyingshiung Borang village in Pemagatshel District. At the age of 18, he was enrolled as a monk at Dzongsar Institute in Bir, Himachal Pradesh, India. He rigorously studied the courses such as logic, grammar, monastic discipline, and poetry, and received prizes for his academic performance from Rinpoche. Khenpo completed his Degree in Shastri (Equivalent to a bachelor’s in arts) and Degree of Achary (Equivalent to an M.A) in nine years of study at Dzongsar, Bir under the benevolent guidance of His Eminence Khenpo Kunga Wangchuk. His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche has conferred him this new name Tshulthrim Woesung upon arrival at Dzongsar Monastery and instructed him not to be called by his previous name.
In the year 2000, Khenpo completed a yearlong Longchen Nyingtik retreat in West Sikkim, Geysing under the instruction of His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche. Later again, His Eminence Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche instructed Khenpo to undergo Three-Years-Three-Months & Three Days retreat at Paro Satsam Chorten; where Rinpoche kindly visited every retreat house and conferred oral transmission of Preliminary Practices and main Practice. After the successful completion of the retreat, Rinpoche again instructed Khenpo to be a Solkha-Lama (libation performer for Dharma protectors) in his residence, Bir India for a year. Khenpo has received numerous teachings from different masters such as HH Dalai Lama, Sakya Dagchen, and Penor Rinpoche in various fields. Amongst them are Wang-Lung and Thri on both Preliminary Practices and Main Practices, Trekcho (Cutting through solidity), and Togal (Direct Crossing), and Dzogchen from His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, his root guru. Khenpo also received his monastic vow from HH Penor Rinpoche in India.

After serving Deothang Shedra for 5 years in teaching and another 5 years organizing and arranging rations for the monks. Khenpola also has served Drubdey Jigme Gyalwai Nyugu Drubdey in Bangtar Bhutan. Subsequently, Khenpola requested His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche to allow him to teach Dudhuel Phodrang in Nyingshing Borang and has been serving this monastery teaching and guiding monks for meditation and retreat activities. It was during the Compendium of Sadhana Oral Transmission in 2023 that His Eminence Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche conferred the title of Khenpo. Khenpo has served as a Chorpen in Dudhuel Phodrang and gained the full trust of two Khenpos and now overseas teaching and academic affairs of the monastery. He currently serves as a principal of the monastery and guides local people in entering retreat and preparing for preliminary practices by teaching and giving oral transmissions.
